Downbeat is a 501C3 with a mission to provide music education, mentorship, and rehearsal spaces to students.
They hired me to make a desktop screensaver they could use to display when computer and TV screens are not in use. The goal was to communicate a professional atmosphere to students and families when they enter the building and see this image on display.
Research
The founder of DownBeat wanted “something musical” for the desktop image that incorporated the organization’s logo. I created this mood board to narrow down what style the founder wanted the desktop to be.
Since this non-profit is based on music education, I decided to use musical scales in the image, including notes D, B, A, C (which is how a “downbeat” is played!)
